Today is the first day of summer, and I’ve gotten a lot of book love for Mother Tongue since it came out, so I wanted take a moment to point share the love… so without further ado, here’s the list of books that have made it to my reading list for this summer:
Who doesn’t love a good book in the summer?
WELCOME TO THE GODDAMN ICE CUBE (July, 5th)
My friend got her hands on an advance copy and called this a “brilliant feminist memoir and travel adventure story” Sold.
THIS IS NOT MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE (available now)
BRAVING IT (available now)
Dad takes his daughter on a journey through the Alaskan wild. I like these people already.
IT’S ONLY THE HIMALAYAS (available now)
Maybe it speaks to me purely on the title but any book that has a subtitle, “And Other Tales of Miscalculation from an Overconfident Backpacker” seems like it needs a place on my shelf.
THE GIRL WITH THE LOWER BACK TATTOO (August 16th)
This book won’t come out until the summer is almost over, but I’m extremely curious to read this memoir which has been threatened to be released for a while now (she had a earlier book deal, got even more super famous, then redid the book – read the whole history in the NYT). I’m hoping for something like Tina Fey’s Bossy Pants, but we’ll see!
ALL STRANGERS ARE KIN (available now)
This is will likely the very next book I read. Zora and I had a brief cross-over while I was in Beirut writing Mother Tongue, she was there too, researching this book. It’s also pretty rare to have a book about learning Arabic so I’m thrilled to dive into this.
32 YOLKS (available now)
I’m sort of nerdy for food memoirs, so seeing Eric Ripert’s name splashed across the cover of a book is pretty damn exciting.
LIFE FROM SCRATCH (available now)
A quest to cook food from every from every country… love it.
I’m giving away one copy of any of the above books or MOTHER TONGUE to FIVE lucky winners. To enter all you have to do is either:
