When National Geographic Traveler of the Year, Christine Gilbert, had children, she didn't stop traveling...

She strapped that baby to her chest and headed out into the world. Over the years, their family has explored India, biked across France, road tripped across the United States, backpacked through Turkey, and lived in over 40 countries.

After her third baby was born, she realized there still wasn't a publication that addressed the unique needs of adventuring parents who wanted to keep doing the things they loved pre-baby with just some sensible adjustments. How do you do a multi-day hike with kids? Keep babies safe in countries with bad water? Go winter-camping for the first time? Bike-camp across Europe with different aged kids? Sail in Asia with a toddler?

Christine had long blogged at almostfearless.com - so this spring Almost Fearless the magazine was born. It's a cross between the travel writing of Afar, the outdoor adventures of Outside and the thoughtful parenting advice of Brain, Child.

Christine Gilbert is the author of the Penguin Random House memoir, Mother Tongue (featured in National Geographic Traveler April 2016 issue) and has been traveling and writing about the world for almost a decade. She has three children, Cole, Stella and Tallulah and right now, together with her husband Drew, they're road-tripping across Mexico in a 1984 VW Westfalia Vanagon, eating too many tacos and putting together the first issue of Almost Fearless for a Fall release.

There are many ways to approach this from homeschooling to just creatively using your summer vacation. This guide gets you started on the basics of free-form homeschooling that’s child-led and project-driven. Every family has their own priorities so we’ll talk about raising independent kids through unstructured education, outdoor exploration, bilingualism, wilderness training, homesteading, studying overseas and more…

Raising Adventurous Kids:
How to Encourage Independence, Curiosity and Fearlessness

How do you get your kids outside and climbing trees in a culture that is conditioning them to not just be risk-averse but risk-afraid? We long for the childhood freedom we enjoyed but how do we raise adventurous kids today? This book takes the real-life experience of super-adventurous families and details how you can incrementally prepare your children for whatever kinds of adventures fit your family – from long-term travel to hiking to mountain biking to a deep love of the outdoors and exploring the world.

That's over $100 worth of bonus guidebooks, but it's only available if you subscribe right now.
